With the road events on the horizon this weekend, the U.S. medal count sits at two with the potential for more on the way. Meanwhile, American Colleen Hayduk joined Phinney on the medal stand with a bronze-medal performance in the scratch race - just hours after finishing 11th in the 500-meter time trial at the 2008 UCI Junior Road and Track World Championships in South Africa.... Phinney clocks world record, Lea, Blatchford look ahead to Beijing - Records fell and automatic time standards were met Sunday andamp; Monday at USA Cycling's Team Selection Camp at the ADT Event Center velodrome in Los Angeles. Taylor Phinney set a new junior world record in the 3000-meter individual pursuit, while Jennie Reed just missed a world record of her own by .007 of a second. Meanwhile, Bobby Lea and Michael Blatchford all but punched their tickets to Beijing by meeting respective automatic nomination criteria for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team - Lea in the points race and madison and Blatchford in the team sprint. Bausch wins continental pursuit title - Dotsie Bausch gave the United States its second medal at the 2008 Pan American Road and Track Championships on Monday with a victory in the womenandrsquo;s 3000-meter individual pursuit. Bausch clocked a winning time of 4 minutes, 2.91 seconds to win the gold medal by five seconds over Ana Rocio Bernal (COL). On Sunday, American Cody Oandrsquo;Reilly captured a bronze medal in the menandrsquo;s 15-kilometer scratch race. The 2008 Pan American Road and Track Championships continue through May 11.... Women learn track racing basics from some of the best in LA - Dozens of women have been learning the basics of track racing from some of the nation's best in the Ladies Only Track Sessions (LOTS) at the ADT Event Center Velodrome in Los Angeles. The monthly clinics teach women the basic skills needed to ride on the track for only a meager $10 fee. The girls-only program has grown quite the reputation for providing women with opportunities to see what track cyclingandrsquo;s all about whether theyandrsquo;re experienced cyclists or not.... Reed wins world keirin title in Manchester - Jennie Reed gave the United States its first world title in the womenandrsquo;s keirin on Sunday to close out the 2008 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. After winning the bronze medal in the sprint on Saturday, Reed gave the U.S. its third medal of the weekend when she sprinted to victory against her five challengers in the keirin final. The U.S. closed the world championships with a total of three medals andndash; two of which were contributed by Reed and one from Sarah Hammer who won the silver in the womenandrsquo;s individual pursuit.... Reed wins bronze medal in sprint, raises U.S. medal count to two - Jennie Reed gave the United States Cycling Team its second medal of the 2008 UCI Track Cycling World Championships on Saturday with a bronze in the women's sprint. Reed bested Guo Shuang (CHN) in two out of three head-to-head rides to claim her first career world championship sprint medal. After falling in two straight rides to defending champion Victoria Pendleton (GBR) in the semifinals, Reed was sent to the bronze-medal round for a face-off with Guo. Reed won the first heat but was beaten by Guo in the second to set up a third and decisive ride. In the decider Reed edged Guo in a photo-finish to place third overall.... Reed in medal contention with trip to semifinals of women's sprint - Jennie Reed assured herself a chance at earning a second medal for the United States at the 2008 UCI Track Cycling World Championships by advancing to Saturdayandrsquo;s semifinals of the womenandrsquo;s sprint. Reed was perfect through her preliminary heats on Friday to set up a head-to-head semifinal match against defending world champion Victoria Pendleton (GBR).
